Seatings begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. with concerts beginning at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively. Seat assignments are based on the date tickets are purchased. Tables for two may be requested, but availability is limited. When such tables are not available, small groups will be seated together at large tables. Performances are approximately one hour long and not intended for children younger than seven years of age.

CAMERAS:  You may bring a camera to take pictures at the end of the class.  We have a professional photographer taking a group shot, and parents may take pictures at the end for your private use.  The Galways are on a tight schedule, with a performance later that day, so they will NOT be taking individual pictures or sign autographs; however, Sir James Galway will be doing signings after every DSO performance that week.
Free Professional Photo Souvenir:  I will email you the “official” group photo, which you can download for free – thanks to photographer Steven Gottlieb.  These photos will be used for the Galway and DSO web sites.  We will have you sign a photo release at check in, indicating that you are aware of, and approve,  the use of the photos for the web sites and distribution to the class members.  If you have any objection to this, we respectfully ask that you refrain from being in the group picture.

The Southeast Michigan Flute Association 10^th Anniversary Flute Ensemble Composition Competition

Composers may submit up to two 5-8 minute works for flute ensemble utilizing at least 4 C flutes, Alto flute and Bass flute (piccolo is optional).  Works should fall into grade 3- 3+ as defined by Flute World’s grading system (http://www.fluteworld.com/index.php?action=strona&wart=16)
Composers must submit the following:
*Cover letter
*A score in PDF format
*A live or MIDI recording of the piece in MP3 format
*$10 non-refundable application fee
The Winning Submission will receive a $500 award and will be premiered by the SEMFA Flute Ensemble at the SEMFA Flute Festival on April 27, 2012.

About the High School Young Artist Competition

The HSYAC is open to any Michigan flutist in grades 9 – 12 who is currently a SEMFA member and who has not previously won the first prize. The applicants
must be available to perform at the Southeast Michigan Flute Association (SEMFA) Festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan on April 28, 2012. Six finalists will be selected on the basis of recorded auditions. Judges will award, at their discretion, first, second and third cash prizes in the amounts of $300, $200 and $100. The First Prize winner will perform in a masterclass for Trudy Kane, our featured guest artist at the SEMFA Festival.

About the Ervin Monroe Young Artist Competition

The Ervin Monroe Young Artist Competition (EMYAC) was established in 2008 to celebrate and honor the 40-year tenure of Ervin Monroe as the Principal Flutist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The first annual competition was held at the Southeast Michigan Flute Association (SEMFA) Festival in 2009.

The EMYAC is open to any current SEMFA member who is a permanent resident of Michigan or is a student at a Michigan college or university. Applicants must be 18–30 years of age by April 27, 2012, the date of the Ervin Monroe Young Artist Competition. The applicants must be available to perform at the SEMFA Festival in Ann Arbor the following day, April 28, 2012.

Five finalists will be selected on the basis of recorded auditions. Judges will award, at their discretion, first, second and third cash prizes in the amounts of $500, $250 and $100. On the following day, at our 9th Annual SEMFA Festival, the First Prize winner will perform their competition repertoire in a solo recital and the Second and Third Prize winners will perform in a masterclass for Trudy Kane, the featured guest artist at the festival.
