About the Workshop
Every year, flute students and teachers practicing in the Suzuki method are invited to attend Dearborn’s Annual Suzuki Flute Workshop. Students are introduced to new perspectives from our talented clinicians. Workshop includes the following experiences:
• 3 individual lessons
• 2 group classes
• 2 large group classes
• A Soloist Recital (particpation limited)
• A Finale Concert (all Workshop particpants)
Larson has distinguished herself throughout the flute world as a prolific performer at home in a variety of styles. Currently principal flute with the Flint Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Larson also plays flute and piccolo with the Michigan Opera Theatre orchestra. She has appeared as a soloist with distinguished symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras, and produced a popular lecture/concert series in Miami, “The Evolution of the Flute.” Ms. Larson’s musical interests arebeen diverse: ranging from singing in chamber, jazz and concert choirs, jamming with jazz groups, to studying the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute)..
Kelley McDermott has concertized throughout the United States and performs regularly as Artist-Masterclass clinician. Ms. McDermott has degrees in flute performance from Michigan State University and Temple University, and has studied at the Aspen, Teton, and Sarasota Music Festivals, as well as the William Bennett class in England. Her teachers in flute studies include Murray Panitz, Renee Siebert, Kazuo Tokito and Marzio Conti. She has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Preparatory Division. She maintains a Suzuki Studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
